Before the production run of the T120V commenced, Triumph made a small pre-production run in June 1971 of T120Rs with 5-speed gearboxes, stamping them T120RV. The V was stamped separately on the engine when the 5-speed transmission was installed.
This was the last of the T120 models and featured a five-speed gearbox, which had been an option on the T120R. In 1974 the last few T120V models were given the same 10in Lockheed front disc brake as the 750cc models which were already in production. Although the UK model had the 'breadbin' style fuel tank, the US models kept the earlier look.
