The Manufacturer has fundamentally improved the design of its Ducati cam belts. The only manufacturer to update its processes.
By changing the tooth shape from round to a rounded triangle with a notched tip allows the belt is to grab the gear tooth more dynamically, also the notch in the tip allows air to escape easier. The result is smoother running.
So if you replace a round valve drive belt, it is not an error but a technical improvement for the customer.
The production of this valve train drive (cam) belt begins with a Kevlar / rubber mat that is sewn together in the first stage to obtain a roll which is then coated in the vulcanization mold with a specific tooth profile.
Over the following operations different layers of rubber material and the tension member are applied and cured together. The internal Kevlar mat transmits the main tension load and gives the belt additional stability.
This tension member is a continuous material and the belt therefore has hightensile strength.
The visible Kevlar string on the inside in one place is not a joining seam and therefore does not affect performance it is purely a manufacturing quality control feature.
